Most Common Washer Issues

why is my washer not draining?

when water stays in the tub is common issue with older washers or it can happen to newer units as well. Sometimes small sock or anything left in the pockets can get through the seals or over the tub basket ang clog the drain pump or damage it. Some of the front load washers have small access door to empty out the trap for the drain pump. When buying frontload  washer make sure there is access door for the drain pump otherwise you will need a appliance repair technician to disassemble washer and fix the pump. make sure you empty your pockets to prevent this issue also don't overload your top load  washers and try avoiding using extra large load setting. High water level will increase the chance  of items climbing up over the edge of the tub. smaller loads will keep washer running longer, shock absorbers will last longer and all the parts.
Not ringing out Clothes

if your  clothes are still wet after the  cycle is finished. On the top load washer can be cause by an oversized load, or the slipping clutch on the transmission if its leaking oil under washer it means the transmission seal is bad and you will need to call repairman.Frontload washers are made little different and usually it will give you an error if the load is too heavy or water isn't draining before trying to reach high spin speed that woud damage the machine. Smaller loads will definitely increase the life of the washers transmission components and drum bearing. Newer front load washers expected to las 10-12 years if not abused. New top load washers are not as good and tend to break sooner.
Washer not spinning

After filling up with water washer just sits and drains the water later or don't do anything. Most common issue on top load washer is faulty lid switch washer thinks that the lid is open and its not safe to move the drum. It can happen on front load washers as well if the door lock mechanism doesn't send signal to control board that door is secured. Some lid switches are pretty simple to diagnose with multimeter by testing continuity but some will need tech data sheet to be able to test properly. Replacing lid lock mechanize is fairly easy task and generally its not very expensive part. On older whirlpool washers failed lid switch will still let the washer to agitate but wont go in to fast spin or drain. Newer washer can be tested by getting in to diagnostic mode.

on the newer type high efficiency top load washer models common issue is transmission actuators failing and not switching between fast spin and agitate  modes sometime washer will give you error code or it can be accessed by diagnostic mode. You can tilt washer back a little and look for leaks or rust underr the unit. Leaking bearing seal will damage eclectic components and might be not cost effective to repair.
